The Digital Government Authority has established the Innovation Hub to fulfill its role in shaping the future of digital government and to secure a strategic position in the government’s digital transformation journey by serving as the national catalyst for adopting innovation and emerging technologies in the public sector.
The year 2021 marked a new beginning for the digital transformation journey in the Kingdom with the establishment of the Digital Government Authority (DGA) the entity responsible for regulating and enabling digital government transformation. Strategic foundations were laid to ensure governance and development of digital services, and to enhance integration among government entities for more efficient and seamless service delivery. The DGA served as the cornerstone from which national digital initiatives were launched, paving the way for the establishment of the Innovation Hub the following year, and supporting the journey toward a smarter and more sustainable digital future.
In 2022, the Innovation Hub Emerging Technologies was established as a specialized platform within digital government to support government entities in exploring and adopting the latest digital innovations. The Hub fosters cross-sector collaboration to co-develop advanced digital solutions. Its creation responded to the increasing need for a creative environment that empowers government entities to address digital challenges in non-traditional ways, accelerating the adoption advanced technologies in government service delivery.
The year 2023 was a significant milestone for innovation, as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced the national Future Vision and priorities for the Research, Development, and Innovation sector. These priorities aim to position the Kingdom as a global innovation hub and support sustainable development. They include improving human health through enhanced healthcare systems, ensuring sustainability of vital resources such as water and food, advancing leadership in energy and industry through innovation, and supporting future economies by developing modern technologies and artificial intelligence.
In 2024, the Digital Government Authority launched a series of initiatives and programs to support innovation and enhance the efficiency of public services. Among these was the second edition of GovJam Challenge, a flagship effort to promote open innovation and address urgent challenges in collaboration with government entities. Other initiatives included consulting services designed to enable and support the digital transformation journey across government entities in the Kingdom, covering areas such as digital strategy, operating models, digital platforms, and future trends.
In 2025, the vision of innovation in digital government materialized with the launch of the Innovation Hub building a beacon of creativity and a platform for exceptional digital transformation. Equipped with cutting-edge spaces and labs, the facility serves as an incubator for bold ideas, where creative minds from government entities converge to shape a smarter, more innovative digital future. At the heart of the center lies the Showcase Area, a vibrant space that highlights inspiring success stories, featuring the achievements of government entities and celebrating their digital transformation journeys. Meanwhile, the Open Innovation Spaces serve as interactive environments that host live innovation activities and engagements with government entities, creating opportunities for transformative solutions that reimagine the future of digital services.
