The Digital Government Authority launches (The Guideline for Web Accessibility of Government Websites) in synchrony with International Day of Persons with Disabilities; The Guideline provides accessibility guidelines (WCAG) according to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
His Excellency the Governor of the Digital Government Authority, Eng. Ahmed Alsuwaiyan, said that the Authority’s launch of the Guideline for Web Accessibility of Government websites comes out for the importance of accessibility for all segments of society and especially for people with disabilities and elderly people to access digital content of digital platforms, digital portals, and government websites. It is also an application of the principle of “Digital by default”.
His Excellency explained that the Guideline aims to improve the user experience of digital services by ensuring the government entities platforms are accessible to serve all target audiences. In addition to providing equal access to digital government services and information for all segments of society including people with disabilities, elderly people, and of all ages. Increase beneficiary satisfaction for digital government services by providing exceptional and specialized experiences for the target audience.
Alsuwaiyan added: “The Guideline raises the quality and maturity of the provided services and reinforces digital performance. In addition to reinforcing the presence in the international indexes for United Nations and strive to reach advanced positions in the terms of accessibility”, indicates that the Guideline targets Government Entities, Private Sector who develop or operate digital government related activities, in addition to individuals.
The Guideline provides three levels of accessibility Guidelines, based on the accessibility priorities of W3C. First priority (A), Second priority (AA), and Third priority (AAA). In addition, it defines the tools for checking web accessibility, and several assistive technologies, including Voice Detection, Screen Readers, Head/Eye Tracking Software, and Braille Technologies.
