Saudi Arabia ranked first in the e-government services maturity index for the year 2022

Saudi Arabia ranked first in the Government Electronic and Mobile Services Maturity Index (GEMS) Issued by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The Index measures the maturity of government services provided through e-portals and smart applications according to three sub-indicators, which are service availability and sophistication, service usage and satisfaction, and public outreach, and according to the report the index measured 18 countries.

For his part, H.E. Eng. Ahmed bin Mohammed Alsuwaiyan, the Governor of Digital Government Authority, expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman for the significant support provided to the digital government that resulted in Saudi Arabia’s advancement in the global indexes, indicating that this achievement is the culmination of joint efforts with the government agencies to attain the government digital transformation, which is one of the objectives of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. Alsuwaiyan stressed that ranking first in the Government Electronic and Mobile Services Maturity Index (GEMS) comes as a result of Saudi Arabia’s progress in the field of digital government that contributed in developing the quality of life for individuals, improving competitiveness and ease of doing business for companies, and enhancing the efficiency of government work.

The Index focuses on (84) essential government services either for individuals or businesses in the priority sectors. Saudi Arabia excelled in the three sub-indicators, maintaining its (first) rank in the first sub-indicator, which is service availability and sophistication, with rate of (96%). The second sub-indicator focused on the use and satisfaction of the service; Saudi Arabia ranked (first) in this sub-indicator, as it continued to rise in this field and achieved progress by more than (37%) during the past two editions, to reach a maturity rate of (79.24%). The third sub-indicator is related to public outreach; Saudi Arabia has achieved an increase in this sub-indicator, reaching a maturity rate of (86.48%), and ranked (third).

It is noteworthy that Saudi Arabia recently achieved (third) place globally among (198) countries according to the Data of GOVTECH Maturity Index issued by the World Bank for 2022. Saudi Arabia achieved its highest historical result in the E-Government Development Index issued by the United Nations since its launch more than 20 years ago. The city of Riyadh ranked fourth in the world in the use of technology and its applications within the “very high range” classification among (193) cities around the world.
