Emerging Technology Adoption Readiness Index 2024

The Digital Government Authority issued a report on emerging technology adoption readiness index 2024 AD. The report indicated that government agencies advanced in the index by (10%) over last year. The index recorded (70.70%) of 2024 AD compared to (60.35%) of 2023 AD, while the current session included 35 government agencies, compared to 13 agencies in the last session.

His Excellency the Governor of the Digital Government Authority, Eng. Ahmed Alsuwaiyan, stated that the report on emerging technology adoption readiness contributes to encouraging innovation and supporting government agencies in their journey to adopt emerging technologies in accordance with the strategic directions of the digital government and the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. Moreover, His Excellency praised the progress achieved by government agencies to develop the beneficiary experience and build the future government.

The index shows the extent of progress in most capabilities for adopting emerging technologies and their readiness, as the percentage recorded in terms of (research) ability reached (72.04%) and reached the level of “proficient,” while the percentage recorded in terms of (communication) ability reached (71.88%) at “proficient” level, while the (proof) ability reached the level of “proficient”, with (70.84%), and the (integration) ability recorded (67.93%) at “advanced” level. The most prominent emerging technologies used were artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, robots and drones, in addition to virtual and augmented reality, the metaverse and the blockchain. 

The results of the highest government agencies were as follows: the Communications, Space and Technology Commission and the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones (MODON) were at “outstanding” level, then the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, in addition to the Saudi Data and AI Authority, the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization and the Ministry of Industry and Minerals Resources were at “advanced” level. Furthermore, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, the Saline Water Conversion Corporation, the Real Estate General Authority, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Culture, the General Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the Ministry of Justice, the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, the Ministry of Health, the Saudi Tourism Authority, the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, and the Ministry of Tourism were at “proficient” level.

The most prominent uses were identifying illegal range extenders, improving energy transmission across the GCC, an aerial photography project and creating a real estate map, an Internet of Things platform for managing and monitoring data, enhancing the digital experience for people with disabilities, an initiative to develop local supply chains, virtual reality maps of geospatial information for industrial cities, smart hygiene management (Madinati), and firefighting and exploration robot.
It is worth noting that the Digital Government Authority issues the report annually to help government agencies determine their readiness levels, detect gaps and opportunities for improvement, and provide the necessary plans for capacity building; in a way that suits the needs and ensures the desired benefit is achieved.
